The Manor School grade 10/11/12 class and Ms. Cundall organized this year's Remembrance Day service. It included a song, poems, and the laying of wreaths on behalf of staff, students, the school community council and the RM of Moose Mountain. Click the title to view a selection of photographs.

Kelsey Starblanket and his helper Kirk came to MacLeod Elementary School and shared knowledge about teepee’s and how to build one. The students really enjoyed how Kelsey taught them important teachings about teepees through movement activities and then selected several students to help in building one! Kelsey was a source of great knowledge and helped students to understand the importance of giving tobacco in order for him to share his knowledge with them. It was a wonderful afternoon of listening, learning and building!

On November 17th APES' French Immersion Gr 1 class enjoyed a fantastic presentation from Saskatchewan Environmental Society. They spoke to us about composting and vermicomposting which uses red wiggler worms. Students were encouraged to investigate with magnifying glasses and flashlights the soil and worms. They used spoons to dig through the compost and found lots of things including red wiggler worms, organic waste and cocoons.

After recess FI Gr 1 joined up with the Gr 5 class and did a waste audit. This meant going through the whole school's garbage (not bathrooms) with gloves and sorting them into piles to see if we are waste wise or wasteful. We were pretty good but we did see A LOT of paper that could go into recycling, as well as a lot of plastic packaging. We discussed how we can reduce our waste by doing little things such as using reusable containers for snacks, using our reusable water bottles. It is up to each of us to make good, healthy choices for our environment. (Click the title to see more photos.)

33 Central School hosted an Indigenous Learning Day on September 20th. Ocean Man and Stoughton Schools travelled to Fillmore to participate in the day. Students rotated to stations including tipi raising, a powwow and regalia presentation, playing the moccasin game, designing orange shirts and buttons, and beading. Facilitators from Ocean Man, Pheasant Rump, and White Bear First Nations ran these activities. Everyone gathered in the gym to watch a Hoop Dance presentation with Terrence Littletent, a world-renowned hoop dancer and storyteller from Kawacatoose Cree Nation. They wrapped up the day with a powwow dance demonstration and a round dance. This Indigenous Learning Day wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful sponsors who contributed, the facilitators, and Ocean Man School's drum group and dancers. It was a wonderful experience for students and staff!

October 17th is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! School bus drivers are often the first and last smile that students see at the start and end of each school day, & today we recognize and thank this important part of our school community for their dedication to getting our students safely to and from school each day.

On September 15th, classes from Gladmar Regional School, Legacy Park Elementary School, Weyburn Comprehensive School, Spruce Ridge School, and Alameda School travelled to Fort Qu'Appelle to participate in the student activities and events at Treaty 4 Gathering. Students participated in a buffalo hide workshop, geocaching, a scavenger hunt, sage pouch making, Elders' teachings, and more! Classes also gathered in the arbour over noon hour to watch powwow dance demonstrations and participate in a round dance. It was a great day for SECPSD students and staff to learn about the history of Treaty 4 and our roles as Treaty relatives.
