From May 23rd to May 30th, the U of A in Edmonton, AB, hosted the Canada Wide Science Fair - a national competition where students compete for scholarships and prizes, get to experience a different province through tours and labs, and meet others from across Canada who are passionate about STEM projects. Gladmar Regional School was honoured to have two students attend this event this year, alongside a parent delegate. Mesa (gr. 8) and her project on whether store bought fruits and vegetables could germinate, and Emilee (gr. 10) and her project on a sustainable solution to de-ice salt made from molasses and beet juice attended this fair. Both projects represented Southeast Saskatchewan with great pride, and participants learned so many amazing things about how youth in STEM are changing the world. Alongside the amazing experience, Mesa's project received a bronze medal in the junior category, the first medal since 2017 for our region. The experience has undoubtedly changed how we approach science fairs and the importance of fostering inquiry in youth at our school! We could not be prouder of their success!
