Spruce Ridge School will be enjoying a shared book experience this fall. One School, One Book is a literacy initiative designed to unite an entire school community of staff, students, and parents by choosing a single chapter book to read. Every student in the school receives a copy of the chosen book, and every family reads it at home over the course of a six-week period. Older students can read the book on their own, and younger students can have it read to them by parents or siblings. Activities at school encourage and enrich the shared reading experience.
We are excited to be promoting this school-wide literacy project. Reading aloud has many benefits for students: helps listening skills, develops vocabulary, strengthens reading comprehension, and helps to build a positive reading experience. When an entire school community reads the same book it helps build and enhance our school community ties.
