My favorite memory at Macoun School...
I was 13 years old and in grade eight when we won second place at volleyball districts, but let's start at the beginning. It was November of 2019 when me and the Macoun Falcons volleyball team jumped in a couple of cars and went to Hillcrest School on an early Thursday morning for volleyball districts. Once we got there, we played about an hour later. We were so ready to go out and kick butt on the court. If you watched most of our season, you would know that's a pretty normal thing. Anyway, we started to warm-up and I was thinking in my head, " I'm super lucky to have such an awesome team, and play with such incredible people. We're going to do great!" Then the ref blew the whistle to start. I was having so much fun that before you knew it, the ref blew the whistle again and the game was over. We won! Our coaches were so proud. I was so proud. We played so well together. The day went on and Ms. Wheeler came to visit us with Cruz. She gave us a little pep talk, watched a couple of games, and then she left.
We were unstoppable! Until the last game. It was about 6 o'clock. We were playing well, but so was Hillcrest. They won the first set, we won the second. Hillcrest pulled through and they beat us, only by a couple points. We won second place. I remember everybody being so devastated that we lost that game, until Mrs. Hjorteland (Coach Mom), the supportive parents, and teachers were telling us we did so well and worked well together, and that they are proud of us. I heard people screaming and clapping because they were so happy. I was so grateful we made it so far. I remember a bunch of people taking the team picture and I almost broke out into tears. My last year playing for the Macoun Falcons with all of my friends.
A few weeks later, we were sitting in assembly and Ms. Dumaine, and Mrs. Hjorteland called Selena, Kashtin, Alyssa, Lucas, Max, Annabelle, Karina, Hanna, and I to the front of the carpet. Since they didn't give out silver medals at districts, they got us each a silver medal. Nobody will ever know the feeling I get when I hold it. It's so special to me and I will cherish it forever. Thank you to everyone that made this experience possible for me. I will never forget the moment that we won 2nd place at volleyball districts!
