CUPE LOCAL 4869 Contract

A motion to ratify the tentative four year agreement as negotiated between the Board of Education and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4869 for the period September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2022 received Board approval at the April 17th regular meeting of the Board held at the head office in Weyburn.  The union encompasses school bus drivers, administrative assistants, library technicians, educational assistants, caretakers and some counsellors.

Celebration

Correspondence was received from the Saskatchewan Physical Education Association (SPEA) celebrating the success of Assiniboia Park Elementary School (Weyburn), Gladmar Regional School, MacLeod Elementary School and McNaughton High School (both in Moosomin), Manor School and Rocanville School in each qualifying for a 2018-2019 SPEA Quality Daily Physical Education leadership award.

The association explained that in order to qualify for the award, each school's physical education program had to meet or exceed all of the Ministry of Education's current physical education curriculum guidelines. SPEA emphasized, "These schools have joined a select number of schools from Saskatchewan and nationally who made a commitment to provide a high quality physical education program for their students. They have completed an intense online application in order to exemplify and qualify for the award."

The dedication and commitment of the leadership at the six schools in supporting the physical education program is being recognized provincially and was lauded by the Board.

Provincial Education Update

Board members reported that they have completed their community meetings hosted to discuss the future of education with respect to the work that is being done province wide to elicit feedback from all interested stakeholders in the establishment of a vision for PreK-12 education over the next decade. They shared that although attendance was not extremely high, participants were thoroughly engaged in the discussion sessions and when totaled across the system there was significant engagement.

In addition, Director of Education Lynn Little informed the Board that to date over 60 completed feedback compilations encompassing staffs, students and communities from across the school division's jurisdiction have been submitted to the Saskatchewan School Boards Association as part of the data gathering process enabling individuals to provide input into Saskatchewan's plan for education from 2020-2030.  Access the following links for more information and to participate in the education survey, which will close on May 10: Minister's Future of Education Video, Provincial Education Plan Survey.
