The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

DofE

The South East Cornerstone School Division recognizes the importance of learning outside the classroom, and the opportunities that can be created to develop the skills, behaviours and attitudes needed for adult life and work.

The SECPSD is a licensed delivery partner of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (The Award) in Canada.

The Award program provides a unique opportunity for our students to foster positive and innovative leadership in their respective communities by engaging in sound activities, promoting service to humankind, physical health, team building and peer mentoring. It also allows our students to diversify their educational experience in a non-traditional approach by fostering lifelong skills that will accompany them throughout life. Overall, the Award framework is a rich and proven learning approach that ensures diversity, equity and inclusion, while removing barriers for all to participate in this unique and challenging experience which makes it a natural fit for our students.

We have partnered to become part of a global network of Award Delivery partners to offer our students the opportunity to benefit from the Award’s world-class non-formal experiential learning program. We believe that the Award offered alongside our curriculum maximizes the long-term benefits of the development of young people.

The Award and SECPSD together promotes the following:

              • Developing holistic skills
              • Encouraging the exploration of interest and passions
              • Enhancing mental health and well-being
              • Developing leadership and life skills
              • Improving academic performance
              • Broadening the horizons of young people
              • Supporting personal independence, post-secondary and entry into the workforce

All SECPSD students in the secondary school program can register for The Award.  In this first pilot year, there is no cost to students.
