Flynn - Subdivision 1
Board Vice-Chair (2018-2019)
Carol Flynn and husband Dale live on an acreage just outside Moosomin. Together they own and operate Drive In Enterprises, a building construction and renovation business. They raised their daughter, Shawna, and sons Michael, Torrie, and Aaron on a dairy farm near Maryfield. Both Carol and Dale were very active in the community while their children were growing up. They served as President and Secretary of the Rec Board, the President and Secretary of the very first Maryfield Rodeo Committee, President and member of the Lions' Club, and were coaches , managers , and leaders in hockey and ball activities. They are now proud grandparents to six girls and six boys. A new addition is expected in the spring of 2017.
Carol is a former teacher, having taught in Moosomin, Raymore, and Maryfield. At the time of amalgamation in 2006, Carol was serving on the Moosomin School Division Board, and was then elected to the SE Cornerstone Board of Education. Carol represents Subdivision No. 1 which includes Moosomin, Rocanville, and Wapella schools and the surrounding areas. Carol has served the Board as Chair and Vice Chair . She is proud to be part of a team who work together with our excellent staff to support student achievement and success.
Harold Laich - Subdivision 2
Harold was first elected to the Board of Education in 2009 as the trustee for Subdivision 2. He is married to Jane who recently retired from her position as Senior Policy Analyst with the provincial Government Relations Branch. They have 3 children: Jordan (Quinn) – Laich Consulting Ltd. in Estevan; Brooks – Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL); and Jodi (Jeff) - Industrial Systems Engineer (currently full-time homemaker) in Lloydminster. They are very proud of their family, their grandchildren (5), and their home community of Wawota.
After 34 years in education as a teacher (Leader), principal (Wawota), Director of Education (Moosomin), and Deputy Director of Education (S. E. Cornerstone, Weyburn), Harold retired in 2007. He holds a B. Ed., P.G.D. in Educational Administration, and a Master degree in Educational Administration. Harold stays active as a Lions member (42 years and the recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Wawota Lions Club) and community volunteer. Both he and Jane enjoy camping, golfing, fishing and time south, but most of all time spent with their children and grandchildren.
Harold has faith in the talent and future leadership potential of our youth, in the professionalism and commitment of teachers and support staff, and believes students in Cornerstone are receiving an excellent education.
Jim Henderson -
Jim represents Subdivision 3. He lives on a farm near Gainsborough with his wife Marilyn where they have retired from farming. Jim has three grown children and seven grandchildren. Jim was a member of the school board in the Oxbow Division when his girls were in school.
Jim now takes an avid interest in all the sports and activities his grandchildren participate in. Each summer Jim likes to spend time at the cabin at White Bear. He also enjoys doing small carpentry projects.
Kevin Keating - Subdivision 4
Kevin represents subdivision four. Kevin has worked for 23 years as a maintenance supervisor for South East Cornerstone Public School Division and the City of Estevan. He was also part owner with his wife Brenda, and Leonard and Ellen Thievin when they purchased T.K. Trailer sales Ltd. Kevin and his partners sold the business in 2014 and Kevin is now retired. Kevin was also a previous owner of Aqua Soft water softeners which he owned for ten years. Over the past year he completed a Professional Director's Certification (Pro. Dir.).
Kevin has been married for 44 years to his wife Brenda (Kuntz) and has two grown children and five grandchildren. Mike is a salesman for Estevan Motors and Michelle works as a continuing care assistant and a bookkeeper. Both Mike and Michelle reside in Estevan. Kevin and Brenda also reside in Estevan having moved back from Manor within the last year.
Kevin is active in sports such as golf, curling and cheering on his Roughriders and Blue Jays. He also paints water colours and does stained glass and pottery as his hobbies. Kevin and Brenda's favorite pastime is camping.
Audrey Trombley - Subdivision 5
Board Chair (2017-2018)
Audrey was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and raised in the Clashmoor
district (Audrey Stevenson). She attended Girwood School to Grade 9 and received her High School education in Tisdale. Audrey married Mel Trombley and they have two sons and one daughter. They moved to the Weyburn area in 1966. In 1981, Audrey entered municipal work. She graduated from the Local Government Administration program in 1983, and worked as Assistant Administrator in the RM of Estevan where she completed her training in rural government. She obtained her Rural C Certificate in 1984 and remained in Estevan until she moved to the RM of Griffin as Administrator in 1985. She obtained a Rural Class A in 1987 and a Superior Certificate and a Certificate of Business Administration in 1993. In 2002, she completed the Trustee Development Program (TDP) through Humber College in Toronto, Ontario. Audrey served as Director of RMAA from May 1994 to May 1998. She held the position of Administrator for the Rural Municipality of Griffin from 1985 until retirement in December 2011. Since then she has provided training to administrators in the R.M.'s of Cambria No. 6 and Souris Valley No. 7. In addition, Audrey was appointed to the Sun Country Health Board in May of 2012 and served as a board member until July of 2016.
Throughout her career, Audrey has been a member of several boards and committees - local, provincial and federal. Audrey was elected to the South Central School Division Board in 2003 and served as Chair of that board. She was elected to the South East Cornerstone School Division Board in June of 2005 and served as board chair until November of 2009. Audrey was re-elected in Sub-Division 5 in 2012 and served as Vice-Chair until November of 2014 when she was re-elected Chair. Audrey was re-elected by acclamation in October 2016.
Audrey is committed to the success of students, and has great respect for those who serve the students of our schools.
White - Subdivision 6
subdivision six which includes Pangman, Ogema, Yellow Grass, Radville, Gladmar
and Lyndale (Oungre) schools. He attended Pangman School from grades one to
twelve and then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts from the University
of Regina (majoring in economics). He presently owns and operates a grain and
Elwood is married to Joy
and they have two children, Caleb and Skylar, who are presently in elementary
school. Elwood is a strong advocate for rural students, schools and
Melanie Sorensen - City of Weyburn
Born and raised in Weyburn, Melanie attended Souris School, WJHS and graduated from WCS. Upon receiving her Business Diploma, Accountancy from SIAST – Palliser Campus, she worked in Regina for the next decade for Westank - Willock, Molson Breweries and the Saskatchewan Opportunities Corporation. In 1999 she and her family re-located to Estevan where she was the Assistant Controller for Prairie Mud Services and Prairie Petro Chem. The next few years were spent raising her two boys, Kaj and Cameron, focusing on her rewarding career as Controller for Brady Oilfield Services in Halbrite, receiving her Business Management Certificate from SAIT/Mullen Group, completing several CGA of Saskatchewan courses and become a certified DiSC Facilitator.
In 2018 Melanie received a Certificate in Public Sector Governance (PSGov) from the Johnson Shoyama School of Public Policy and has recently received a Life Coach Certificate from Rhodes Wellness College.
Melanie is the Office Manager for the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation Inc. with responsibility for accounting, event planning and anything in between. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, an active Quota International of Weyburn member and a Saskatchewan Roughrider volunteer. Kaj and Cameron are pursuing post-secondary education opportunities and figuring out what the future holds for them.
As a trustee representing the City of Weyburn, Melanie brings her energy, optimism, passion and inquisitive nature to work for students and citizens in the SE Cornerstone School Division.
Brandon Tichkowsky - City of Weyburn
Jim Vermeersch - City of Estevan
Jim has just recently been elected to the Board of Education as a representative of the City of Estevan. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant who was a partner in the firm of Siever, Vermeersch & Fonstad but has retired as of May, 2018.
Jim attended the University of Saskatchewan and received a Bachelor of Education. He taught for eight years and received his professional accounting designation in 2002. Jim has served as President of his provincial accounting association and currently serves on the board of the Southeast College. He is also actively involved in the Lions Club at both the local and district level.
Jim is married to Heather who is a retired teacher and they have a son, Brad, who is a lawyer living in Toronto.
Jim looks forward to working together, as a team, with the professional staff and the other board members of SECPSD to help maintain the high standards of education that currently exist within the school division.
Shari Sutter - City of Estevan
Shari Sutter is new to the board this fall. Shari is married to Kevin and they have three sons. Hayden, age 20, is currently residing in Regina and studying Human Justice at the U of R, Colin, age 18, graduated in June 2016 from the Estevan Comprehensive School and has been accepted to police studies in Lethbridge for fall 2017. Christopher, age 14, is attending ECS and is currently in grade 9. Shari and Kevin have raised their boys on an acreage near Bienfait.
Shari attended Minot State University where she graduated with her Bachelor of Social Work. Shari has been employed as a Child Protection Worker and Youth Probation Worker for the Government of Saskatchewan, a School Counsellor for the Southeast Cornerstone School Division and is currently a Communications Officer for the Estevan Police Services.
Shari is passionate about the education and needs of the children and youth in the SECPSD and in our province as a whole.
